Stocks are the best investment over the long term
Stocks are the most profitable asset class for investors ready to invest for the long-term. Investing in stocks, over the long-term and if properly done, is the best way to generate wealth over time and this can be done without taking too much risk (such as using leverage for instance). In many countries (and this is particularly true in countries such as France, Italy and some Asian countries such as Vietnam) investors think that real estate is the best investment option. In

Performance April 2019
Vietnamese shares did not change much this month. Investors remained cautious about the market’s prospects. Many investors just stood by and watched the market move. On the economic side, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said Vietnam experienced another year of strong growth in 2018 (GDP expanded by 7.08%) although a weaker external environment could affect its growth outlook for this year and next. The ADB has forecast Vietnam’s economy to grow by 6.8% in 2019 and 6.7% in 20

Vietnam is sometimes viewed as being an emerging market
Vietnam is sometimes viewed as being an emerging market, but technically, it is still officially classified as a Frontier market. A frontier market is different from an emerging market. In the 1990s, the International Finance Corporation came up with the term ‘Frontier Market’ that allowed to differentiate the concepts of emerging and frontier markets. To put it simply, a frontier market is a type of developing country that is more developed than the least developing countrie

Vietnam is becoming a modern economy
If you have already been to Vietnam, you might have noticed the high number of shops selling clothes. These shops are often small and family-owned. In years to come, many of these shops are expected to close. Vietnam is becoming a modern economy and artificial intelligence starts to be deployed in the retail industry too. #Vietnam #Stocks #Investing #BuyingVIetnamstocks

In early August, Moody’s upgraded Vietnam from B1 to Ba3
In early August, Moody’s upgraded Vietnam from B1 to Ba3. "While downsides may arise from persisting weaknesses in the banking system or if the ongoing trade dispute between the US and China resulted in a sharp slowdown in global trade, there are upside risks from further improvements in debt affordability and better trade performance than we currently project." #Moodys #Vietnam #Creditrating #stocks

Our performance
Last year our reference portfolio under-performed the major indexes. Nonetheless, we managed to record a 27.6% annual return. In 2016, while the main indexes recorded in average 7-8% gains, our reference portfolio recorded an 18.6% gain. In 2015, our performance was very similar with +18.8%. #stocks #Vietnam #Vietnamesestocks #emergingmarketstocks

Different cultures, values and goals
We have clients from different parts of the world who speak different languages, have different cultures and values and have different goals. We provide a tailored approach. Each client is unique and that means that the best stocks for one client are not necessarily the best for all of them. When you buy a stock, you own a part of a company, so you need to feel at ease with the business that the company carries on whether the company is in Vietnam or not. #stocks #Vietnam #

What are your goals as an investor?
What are your goals as an investor? We have many clients and each of them has different goals. Some of them are investing with their children in mind, some are investing for their retirement, some clients are just looking for high returns. Depending on your objectives we might recommend you not to opt for our service. In fact, we are looking for investors with a long-term horizon, that is at least a couple of years. Investing in a frontier market such as Vietnam involves rela

February 2018 stock performance
February has been a hectic month, to say the least. Vietnam's stock markets have been heavily hit by the plunges on Wall Street that triggered a rout in equities worldwide. Vietnamese shares suffered large but luckily temporary losses. A couple days prior to Tết (the Vietnamese New Year), the VN index was down more than 10%. After this turmoil, indexes started to rise strongly notably supported by large-cap stocks such as PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation shares (GAS).

Historical-cost based Balance Sheet figures
Historical-cost based Balance Sheet figures are the ones that matter in estimating the risk that a company will violate a loan covenant requiring maintenance with a minimum ratio of debt to net worth. It is good to solicit as many details as management will disclose regarding risks not spelled out in the Balance Sheet or footnotes. Analysts/investors should solicit the company’s customers, suppliers, competitors and lenders and any other analysts who follow the company. #bala

October 2017 Stock Performance
After a really strong month of September, October has been much more mixed for the Vietnamese stock markets. This month witnessed a strong performance divergence between the two main Vietnamese indexes which is quite unusual. On the economic side, Inflation eased in October while the YTD CPI increase to 2.25% and annual growth soared to 7.5% in Q3 (Q2: 6.3% year-on-year) despite a protracted downturn in mining and oil output. Finally, rising inflows of FDI amid concerted effo

A quick look on the main Vietnamese indexes performance since the beginning of the month.
We are already in the second half of the month of October. A perfect time to have a quick look on the main Vietnamese indexes performance since the beginning of the month. Hanoi’s index has been outperformed by Ho Chi Minh index so far. HSX records so far a gain of +1.6% while HOSE index records an impressive gain of 2.9%. Since the beginning of the year, HSX is up by 36.6% while HOSE is up by a more modest but still massive 24.5%. #vietnam #stocks #indexes #performance #Octo

Are you a Vietnamese resident investing in Vietnamese stock?
If you are a Vietnamese resident and you invest in Vietnamese stocks, it is easy to compute your returns. You would be doing so in you currency..the Vietnamese Dong. However, things become more tricky as an international investor investing in Vietnam (or any other country using a different currency). Indeed, you have two ways to determine your performance, looking at the performance in VND or looking at the performance in your own currency. Since we have clients from many dif

Invest in Vietnam
Why invest in Vietnam? A thousand years ago, the economic centre of the world was in Asia. Today, it seems clear that the world’s economic centre of gravity is shifting back to Asia. Vietnam is ideally located. It has a long coastline with many ports and shares a border with southern China, and is thus close to large metropolitan and economic hubs such as Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. The country's geographic position is one of its many assets and has encouraged firms to
