Stock picking, if done the right way, is the best way to obtain high performance in Vietnamese stocks. The balance sheet is of primary importance in stock picking. However, Balance sheet gives investors incomplete information. For instance, “Human capital” is valuable, especially for service business but no one has devised a means of valuing it precisely enough to reflect it on the Balance sheet. More generally, there is a growing mismatch between the information-intensive New Economy and the traditional notions of assets.
